We had a great time when we played at The Baggot Inn (12/12/98)
With great pride we introduced Momo, our new lead guitarist,
and Phil Dubwise our new drummer to the combo.
Laury rushed down to the Baggot from the play he's starring in to add his percussive input.
But, the crowd really went crazy when our newest member: Milo hit the stage
and rocked the house with his unique Raggamuffin vocals.
Thanks to Andy Suhl who video taped the show.
The next night we did a set at Arlene Grocery (12/13/98).
It's a great room with great sound and we look forward to plaing there again soon.
Thanks to Tracy for her great video camera work!
Thanks to Roger Cane and James Golden for taking the shots.

It was a crazy post Christmas week:

Dec. 28, 1998 we played our first show at The Living Room (two sets).
It was great fun working with Bruce (Bebo) the sound guy at this very intimate Loisaida club.
Thanks to Sascha for video taping.
We were called back into action for a quick set on Thursday, (1/7/99)
and once again it was a pleasure. Thanks Jennifer!

New Year's Eve at The Baggot Inn was a gas.
At the last minute Jason asked us to do the whole night and how could we refuse?
So we did three long sets and the place was packed with friends and a lot of new people.
Thanks to Jason Kalb, Rich and Dale Ricciardi for video taping and holiday spirit.

More fun at The Baggot Inn on 1/15/98 and 1/23/98

This place has really become like home to us thanks to Jason(booking), Red(sound), Patrick(bar/mgr),
Vincent(door), Niki & Tyler(waitress), Tom(owner)and all the other groovy people there.
Thanks to Tom Reiss (1/15) and Peter Dizozza (1/23) for video taping.
Check out Jason's band: The Last Tribe with their urban funk jam every Sunday at 9:30PM.

3/16/99 What Happened? Several people were asking what was behind all of these personnel changes . . .

It's really quite simple. After much discussion, we decided to put more focus on Reggae, Ska and Dub music.
Rich (keys) and Momo (lead guitar) want to explore other styles and formats. They are great guys, it's been
a blast playing with them, and we wish them much future success.

4/2/99 After two months of woodshedding, the big show at the Baggot Inn

was a smashing success! The turnout was incredible and it was great seeing everyone.
Special thanks to David Kaufman for joining us on keyboards. Visit his site and keep up with his group: The Nails
Thanks to: Peter Dizozza and Andy Suhl for video expertise, Ellen Wilson and Peggy Jordan for photography.

Zack Glass, David Kaufman & Doug Guthrie at rehearsal.

On Sunday, 4/11/99 we made our first (of hopefully many) appearance at S.O.B. in NYC.

It was an incredible evening of music and politics and we had a great time.
Thanks to Greg for making all the technical stuff go smoothly. Fisherman's Stew (his band) rocks!
Thanks also to Peter Dizozza for video documentation.

4/14/99 Today, Milo is off to France with wife Alexandra and baby Nyra.

We'll miss him and eagerly await his return to take his rightful place with The MOT!VES!
Last weekend was a whirlwind, as we played two benefits against the death penalty.
On Friday, 4/9/99: Cafe Demu (773 Fulton St in Brooklyn, NY) where we did two sets very dubwise!
Thanks to Patricia (and her great African style homemade cooking).
Thanks also to Erin Sadler and Joshua for video and digital photography.

5/8/99 Our first gig since Milo left for France, Laury sang a couple of songs,

Rebecca played some keyboards and Doug and Zack got to stretch out on some solos.
Although we are missing Milo, the mood is good and the vibe is nice!
The turnout was great and the club staff was a pleasure as usual.
Thanks to Marcia Davis for video documentation.

5/20/99 Downtime/251 West 30th Street/NYC

Thanks to the outrageous Cesar Pink And The Imperial Orgy for inviting us to join them.
We had a great time as we welcomed David Kaufman back into the fold.

We were invited to play a party in Brooklyn. Since Rebecca and Milo were both out of town, what was left

of the band joined forces with One Voice, a singing duo (Marcia & Andrea) from Liverpool and took the gig.
We had a great time playing in the sun. It also was an opportunity for Laury, Zack, Phil and even Paul to sing a few.
But all the thunder was stolen by two of the cutest little girls, who sang a tune after a little soundcheck rehearsal.
There was also a dramatic moment when an irate neighbor freaked out, but vibes of the day seemed to take care of that.
Thanks to Aarif Khakoo, his friends and family for such a splendid time on Sat May 22, 1999.

The MOT!VES have begun to record our first album! Recording commenced on Wednesday, June 11, 1999 at

Version City, the world famous recording studio of Stubborn Records. Agent Jay was at the controls as we
laid down basics for UFO, Freeman, Might Say Yes and Between A Rock And A Hard Place.
We aren't making any promises about release dates or label affiliations (soon come!).

We had an amazing time in Iowa & California at the RAW99 Conference(Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide).
We also had some fantastic shows in the bay area and made a bunch of new friends.

Check out Paul's Iowa Diary, complete with photos and running stream-of-consciousness
commentary on the amazing Iowa tour!

Or, for an even more comprehensive, photo-filled epic documenting BOTH tours, grab something to drink, make yourself comfortable, and enjoy David's "MOT!VES On The Road" piece, covering both the California and Iowa trips.

On Sunday, October 10, 1999, THE MOT!VES made a trip up to Torrington, CT
to play a benefit for the High School Orchestra.
Thanks to Eric Jacklin, his dad, the sound guys and everyone else for maing us feel at home.
Special Thanks go to Franci & Rachel of "A Healing Trail" Massage Therapists. They touched us in all the right places!

Another great weekend of NY area shows. On Sat., Oct 30 we played at The Beacon Tavern in Woodside Queens.
Sunday, Oct 31, 1999 we played at Alice Farley's world famous Halloween Party where after our third set,
we we treated to a Tango performance by stilt dancers. It simply had to be seen to be believed!
The scary room was, and Alice's inventive costumes are a real treat to behold.
Thanks to Alice, Tuli, Steve, Tim, Pam, Stan Baker and everyone else who helped to make it all possible.

It was a wild night on November 7, when we appeared with Laury Webb and Tigerbone at The Lions Den.

Thanks to Koffi & Kiki and everyone else from the Lions Den.

New Years Eve, 1999 at The Baggot Inn.

A spendid time was had by all. We did four sets thoughout the night.
Special thanks to The Coopers (who played before us), Bill for sound, Tom & Jason for everything and
Sandy Imhoff and Jim & Karen Bolluyt for video taping when they could have been relaxing!

It was a spur of a moment thing last Sunday (1/16/00) when some of us dropped in on

Jason's Sunday night jam at The Baggot Inn.
With Louie on bass, David on keyboards, Laury sang a few songs and was joined by
our friends Charmaine and Kalvin Kristi (of The Overdrive).

A last minute invitation to perform at The Baggot turned into a great night of music and surprises.
On Wed. Jan 19, 2000 we landed on the stage around 10PM and busted out with over two hours of non-stop music.
Joined by Laury Webb, Kalvin Kristie (of The Overdrive), Marcia Davis, Jah Youth and Jason Rosen,
the stage was in constant motion. Even Milo got into the spirit of it all by introducing two new songs.

We celebrated our own Bob Marley Day on Wed Feb. 2, 2000 at The Baggot Inn

with the open mike extravaganza that featured Marcia, Laury & Kalvin with special guest appearances by
Zack Glass (who sang on Crazy Baldhead and created a new harmonic treatment of Nice Time!) and
Alex (who jumped on stage with his DJ style and his melodica several times throughout the evening).
Thanks to Vince who helped out with the sound and Tyler who helped with the spirit.

Sadly, we must report that Rebecca Bolluyt(vocals) has decided to leave THE MOT!VES as of 2/7/00.
We wish her much success in whatever she chooses to do.

Our Triumphant Return to The Sunday Reggae Jump at THE LIONS DEN in Greenwich Village, NYC
on Sunday Feb. 13, 2000 was a great success. We performed 2 sets featuring Marcia Davis, Laury Webb
and of course Milo on vocals. We were joined by special guest Kalvin Kristi (of The Overdrive) for
several songs throughout the evening. Also, this was our first performance with Buford O'Sullivan
(of The Scofflaws) playing trombone and making a wicked horn section with Doug.
Some lucky viewers saw our first commercial on Rockers TV a few nights earlier to promote this show.

On Feb 16, 2000, we really loosened up at The Baggot Inn.
The free for all(!) included a special appearance by Jose Scringer chatting ina Cuban dancehall stylee and
giving us a soulful Spanish version of Perfidia alongside Marcia's version..
Also full bown insanity with our friends Peaches and Daniel (formerly Alex!)
Thanks to Sascha for video and Nicole for photography.
